Project Michelle

Our friend Michelle was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia early last year.  Since then, she has gone through treatment, chemotherapy and was in remission for the past five months until she found out this past week that her cancer has relapsed and must undergo immediate surgery.

Unfortunately, there is no registered bone marrow match for Michelle. We would really greatly appreciate if you would take the time and consider taking some simple steps to help potentially save someone's life.

Please go to the following website to get more information about the National Marrow Donor Registry, and about being a bone marrow donor: http://www.marrow.org/index.html

The Asian American Donor Program (http://www.aadp.org)  helps cover donor fees since there is a shortage of Asian American donors. People have asked me specifically about where to go or how to be a
donor. If you are interested in registering for the registry, I think these are the easiest ways to do this.

If the listed drives are too far out of the way, please go to the AADP page to register online for a home kit. These are free for anyone of all or part ethnic minority descent. If you were to get the same
home kit through the national registry page, it would cost $52 for non-minorities.

Please note that people of all ethnicities are encouraged to register to be a donor, not just minorities. I believe it is free to go to any of the drives. If you go in person to a local donor center, the fees may or may not be covered by a group or family so please call the center to check.
